CHAMPAIGN, IL – January 28, 2008 – Dark Maze Studios is currently producing a new animated series for mobile phones based on its recent videogame parody movie “Press Start.” Called “Press Start Adventures,” the series is presented by ThunderSquid Incorporated and will be available in 2-3 minute episodes beginning in January. The cartoons spoof the gamut of videogame genres but focus primarily on classic arcade and console games.
While the first 14 episodes have been edited from the existing “Press Start: Bonus Levels” cartoons currently available at PressStartMovie.com, 10 new episodes are in production which take place after the events of the movie. The first of these bridges the story gap and reveals what has become of the film’s main villain, Count Vile.
Returning to the series along with the rest of the main cast is voice actor David Humphrey, who portrayed vampire Lord Vlad in the episode “Symphony of the Trite”. Humphrey is best known to gamers as the original voice of Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes. Vlad will appear in several of the new episodes.
Other videogame voice actors who have previously lent their talents to the Press Start cartoons include John Turk (Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Mythologies), Robert Belgrade (Alucard in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night), and Arin Hanson (Bruce Banner in Marvel Ultimate Alliance). Hanson is also returning to the series, reprising his dual roles as Buzz Porcupine and Plumber Pete.
Press Start Adventures also features music by videogame composer Jake Kaufman (Contra 4).
