Filming "Kontinues" in Chicago

Press Start has big news.

We just got back late last night from Chicago after an unbelievable and intense day of filming with Press Start’s amazing guest stars. They’re a couple of professional martial artists named Daniel and Carlos Pesina.

But gamers might know them as Johnny Cage and Raiden.

Combined, the Pesina bros. made up a sizeable chunk of the cast of the original Mortal Kombat videogames. Daniel played not only Cage, but also Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile, and all those other palette-swapped ninjas in MK1 and MK2.

Lunch with Daniel (2nd from the right), Carlos (center), cast, crew, and new friends.

Now they’re making an appearance in Press Start, playing roles that, in part, pay homage to the game characters for which they are so well-known. And we couldn’t be more excited. We had a lot to pack into one day of shooting, but the cast and crew rose to the challenge brilliantly. And on top of it all, it was great fun. Press Start is a comedy, after all, and there was plenty of joking around, both on and off camera.

Reading through the scene with Carlos and Daniel.

Incidentally, be sure to check out the Photos page, where you might find a new publicity shot or two…

A word from the writer…

Hey, Kevin Folliard writer of “Press Start” here. Last night I had the privilege of being present for what I believe was the second night of filming at Dallas and Co. Everything is coming together smoothly. My one regret about this project is that due to distance I can’t be present for the majority of filming, so it was awesome to be there to help in any way possible. And let me tell you, nobody can move walls around a makeshift shop set quite like me.

Seriously though, everyone is doing a great job. Al, Josh, and Lauren are able to bring a genuine hilarity to our wayward trio of dysfunctional adventurers. And of course there’s the always professional Andy Dallas doing what comes natural and playing an actual shopkeeper for a change rather than a homicidal doctor. Oh yeah and there was this guy Ed running around with a camera and storyboards and stuff… he was kind of getting in the way, but what are you gonna do? Oh right, I prefaced this paragraph with the word “seriously.” Yeah, Ed’s doing a fantastic job! I’m majorly impressed with the level of organization that got us done by the insanely early hour of 9PM. Clearly my comedy is in good hands!

Thanks for a great time filming, guys. I hope to be able to help out as much as I can. And hopefully I’ll be able to cook up a few “Press Start” related side projects to compliment the film. Play on!

The Villain Revealed

Here he is! Peter Davis as the sinister Count Nefarious Vile! This picture was taken tonight after he tried on his costume for the very first time. And expect to see some official publicity photos of Peter on the website in about a week. Meanwhile, enjoy!

Happy New Year!

We are very excited to announce that production on Press Start has officially begun. A couple of key scenes have been filmed, and we’re now well and truly on our way. The first press release has been posted on the home page, formally announcing the kickoff.

More cool stuff is in the works, but more on that as it happens. For now, I’ll leave you with this still from the first night of filming.

Cheers,
Ed
