Vox Imperium

Hey gang! While we’re doing the editing thing, I wanted to bring something to your attention that you might enjoy.

Bill Renner, besides being our resident Flash consultant for the Press Start: Bonus Levels cartoons (read: “Bill, help! It’s broken!”), is also an online game maker. And he’s just finished his latest project: an online empire simulation game called Vox Imperium.

“Vox,” he explains, “is best described as an online, multiplayer version of Civilization. Players build up huge empires from humble beginnings, then use their wit and might against their hostile neighbors. Standard games last two weeks, while quick games almost play like Starcraft and are over in a matter of hours.”

Vox is free to play and completely browser based, so there are no downloads or plugins.

You can check it out at VoxImperium.com. Have fun!

Release Date!!

by Ed Glaser on February 2, 2007 · 5 comments

Brace yourself, it’s a little while off.

Okay, no more beating around the bush. Here’s the word. “Press Start” will be released on DVD on September 25, 2007.

The DVD will contain not only the movie, but as many special features as we can cram in.

We know it’s a heck of a wait. Post-production is a regrettably slow process, but we’re getting there! In the meantime, we’ve got a couple more episodes of the current Press Start: Bonus Levels miniseries to go, and some other stuff in the works for after that. So keep checking in – there’ll be more to see.

We still have a lot to do, so time to get back to it!

Sound check

by Ed Glaser on January 22, 2007 · 1 comment

While a lot has been going on lately, most of it sounds pretty boring when explained. Now that all but the merest smidge of the movie has been shot and most of it has been edited, I’ve been spending a lot of time parked in front of the computer fiddling with things that look like this:

We’ve been recording all the ADR (aka dubbing) for the film and working on the sound mix, which is coming along slowly but surely. But more importantly, it’s sounding great.

Meanwhile, we’ve got even more exciting digital effects stuff coming in from our resident CG guru, Rod Contreras. So things really truly are progressing!

Lastly, don’t forget that the next Press Start: Bonus Levels toon goes up this Friday, January 26!

What exactly are we doing?

by Ed Glaser on December 18, 2006 · 0 comments

A fine question. Here’s a little update: we’ve got over 95% of the movie filmed, and the vast majority of it edited in rough-cut form. Besides that last bit of filming and editing, we also have all the post-production sound to do (including music) and several digital effects to add.

We’ve made a great deal of progress recently, and we anticipate that it will continue!

Speaking of post-production sound, Kevin Folliard came down this weekend to do some dubbing for the movie:

I’ve received a number of requests recently for the theme music from the Press Start: Bonus Levels cartoon, composed and performed by the awesome Jake Kaufman. So here ya go!
